True Friends

From the liner notes

In the winter of 2013, I wrote the lyrics to a song that Paddy and Patrick composed and we decided we’d record the first draft of Quiet Moment live, at the AA studio in Utrecht.

This process felt so special to everyone involved, that it was then decided that we simply had to record an album. My first! And that’s where this journey started.

Numerous live recording sessions in both AA and Lakeside Studios followed over an extended period of time. This took place during a severe economic crisis, which we all felt the effects of. At the time, a few members of the rhythm section of the project were either going through a divorce or experiencing heartache in some way.

It was an extraordinary and dark period in which we became closely involved in each other’s lives. So, put a bunch of middle aged, semi-unemployed and heartbroken musicians together and this is the result!

Now, after almost eight years, the album is finally finished and most of our lives are back on track.

It felt like a group-effort, because we were there supporting each other throughout it all.

I truly felt everyone’s immense support and dedication because they showed up and arranged all the parts together from scratch. There was no leader, it was a magical experience.

First of all, my gratitude to Patrick. You provided the environment in which all these elements could align. You invested an immense amount of time and energy, moulding the rough takes into something we can all be proud of. You’re a saint!

I consider myself very lucky because these extremely talented musicians gave their all in the creation of this beautiful album. Words cannot express how grateful I am for their trust, their time, their effort, their expertise and the heart and soul they put into it.

This quote beautifully describes how this album came to be a storybook of brotherhood and friendship. “Sharing the things we know and love, with those of my kind” -Steely Dan, Deacon Blues.

I hope you too will enjoy the fruit of true friendship as much as we’ve enjoyed growing it!
